Now, I may be sick with a debilitating injury, but I still burn the midnight oil trying to find out the best bolt-on kit for zx-6R owners out there. So in this spirit, I hustled the mechanical heart-Dave Smith off to shop with Dyno Carbontek zx-6R and a tool to test a different pipe.
First up is titanium Akrapovic Evo full system that has been in the bike for two months. A super-bright, beautifully crafted setup, it's the lightest of the three tests here (and most expensive). Fi nal link in the pipeline is amazingly fat - ideal for pipes suggest race tuners search of peak power. I'm pretty happy with Akrapovic blend of voice, looks, weight and power.
When first installed, it made 118bhp at the wheel, the stock more than six bhp. On the test day produced 116bhp at the wheel, we provide a good basis for a number of other two pipes. Afternoon by Dave's spannering see both the micron serpent Hydratech and bolted Yoshimura duplex system and try out.
The result is the Dyno sheet - beautiful and interesting to read them too. Micron is regulated, with the Ultralite can be quite easy, but Dave has been getting some problems with the correct header to fit the radiator mount. Running on the Dyno, which provides impressive 119.5bhp micron in tires, increased approximately 3.5bhp through Akrapovic, and almost ten bhp over stock.
Yoshimura The setup looks a little slack to begin with. Using the standard Kawasaki mid pipe between the header of titanium and stainless end can, and a few welds are boys fall apart. But bugger if I do not provide the power as well as micron. A tenth of micron bhp more than, in the hundred or so less rpm, with a few bumps in the curves, a Yoshimura not much better than our estimates.
Final variable is fueling - Power Commander on the bike tweaked to have a map in accordance with the Akrapovic system, which makes the micron and Yoshimura seen better. Some time in the next Dyno curves on the increase akan Yoshi micron and even more. So, to conclude, which is the lightest by Akrapovic almost half a kilo, it appears the best, most visible and suitable for engine tuning.
Micron is the cheapest, most-create with power, and in between Akra and Yoshi fat. Yoshimura making power with the best, is on the road price, and the heaviest. Now, owners zx-6R, the choice is yours. Do you want to have?
